Looking At CinemaSins' And My Criticism Of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

4 - Maybe the opening text could've said that some joined the Rebels when they were fleeing across the galaxy.

6 - The probe droid could've detected Luke’s radio signal from orbit if he checked in on his patrol. A probe droid could be shown above the atmosphere, detecting a radio signal.

9 - Perhaps the Wampa wanted Luke to not freeze/harden, so it could eat him later. The Wampa still had other meat to eat.

12 - You don’t need to read a book for that. The opening text said the Rebels were on the run across the galaxy. So, as Han mentioned 'we', the Rebels made a stop on Ord Mantell.

13 - A bounty hunter could pose as a Rebel. The Rebels were recruiting, so Rebels could show up on Hoth. Han could contact Jabba from Tatooine’s orbit and flee if attacked/he couldn’t take out the attacking craft.

16 - Luke was distracted before the Wampa attacked him, so that could explain why he didn't sense the Wampa's hostile intent.

17 - Maybe as the Wampa was holding Luke up, the saber hilt swung, and the Wampa swatted it off with its claws. The Wampa might've viewed the movement as a potential threat. The lightsaber probably would've been sticking deeper into the snow though.

22 - When a person is close to hypothermia, a person can dream of being warm. If Luke was imagining being warm in a dream, that could've warmed him up via the Force.

23 - Obi-Wan had a certain non-interference policy. Luke had to go through fear and face the Wampa/an enemy himself (Obi-Wan later says that Luke must face Vader himself). Perhaps some beings liked watching Luke go through his struggles.

26 - Perhaps Luke was helping the Rebels escape via Force guidance. It wasn't 3 years, according to the current canon.

27 - Luke mentioned that he had reached the end of the patrol route. The Wampa attacked him there. Luke later fled the Wampa cave. The cave shouldn't have been too far away from where the Wampa attacked Luke. So Han wouldn't need to scour a big planet for Luke.

29 - It was probably only part of Luke’s body that went into the Taun Taun.

35 - If Luke had known Leia was his sister, and he joined Vader, Luke could tell Vader about her. If Luke went dark, he might try to turn Leia via torture.

37 - Han saw a Snow Speeder flying in search of himself and Luke. Perhaps Snow Speeders could fly fine in daytime temperatures. Time had passed since the night before, so maybe they got 1, or more, of the speeders adapted to the cold by then.

4:51 (not the sin timer) - That imperial subordinate should've reported more detail about the approaching Rebel ships. That would've been a realistic military protocol. The subordinate could've said something like 'a GR-75 medium transport and 2 X-Wing fighters are coming into our sector'.

48 - In the canon novel Dark Disciple, someone on a small ship, was able to use the Force to slow their crashing ship and to angle the nose up. Luke could've been guided to do that. In any case, he could've wished/willed the speeder to slow enough to survive the crash.

52 - Perhaps Vader was concentrating on potential threats in the immediate area. Distraction can affect the ability to use the Force. Parts of the base had caved in. So the base was structurally unsound and therefore a potential threat.

53 - Was the Falcon moving too quickly? Vader could have been given guidance to not crash the Falcon. Its crew come in useful to him on Cloud City. He tortures them to get Luke to come.

57 - Perhaps it was a small, slow moving rock. The Falcon shield could've slowed it down.

66 - C-3PO was a protocol droid versed in etiquette. That would be unrealistic for him to interrupt his master when she was kissing.

67 - It showed the larger Destroyer right before showing Vader if I recall, implying that Vader was on it. That seems like a weird spot for the holographic projector in front of Vader. A viewer in Vader's position could see people walking behind the holograms (we see through the holograms) providing a possible distraction for the viewer in that place, and a poorer view of the hologram figure/details. CS questioned why screens existed in some cases and holograms in others. Screens on the Star Destroyer bridge would not have background objects showing through the image. That would be important for small radar readings.

82 - Perhaps CS didn’t understand the symbolism/didn’t like what he thought it was symbolizing. It wasn't showing Vader and Luke were family. It was showing Luke that he was his own enemy.

87 - If Boba's IQ was high, he could think 'radar only detects objects apart from its ship. So the only thing the Falcon could've done, since it didn't have stealth capability, was to attach itself to the Destroyer'.

Why would a Destroyer produce waste like that? Why would that metal not be recycled?

93 - As a Force ghost, Yoda could train Leia.

97 - The imperials could've had a ship closer to Cloud City than the Falcon. Then Vader could have arrived after the Falcon.

113 - Why did Vader presume that Obi-Wan trained Luke? Vader could have presumed that Yoda was dead from old age. Why did Luke go to Dagohbah? Obi-Wan could've thought it would be good to give Yoda company. The Dagohbah cave, and raising the X-Wing out of the swamp, both served as lessons.

122 - Yoda warned that Luke would become an agent of evil. Luke would suffer torture. Then he would cause evil. So Luke's suicide would prevent pain and evil.

124 - That was a weather vane. Luke could've been guided by the Force to grab that antenna.

125 - Onscreen, we see a clump below the main structure of Cloud City. That was Lando's structure. He could tell that that clump was not supposed to be there.

126 - It seemed like Luke already knew. Luke was perhaps shocked that Vader was so evil to him - causing him fear, pain and a lost: limb, allies and friends.
